How to Stay Focused in the Rain

How to Stay Focused in the Rain

Over this last weekend, I endured terrible downpours of rain on the golf course so this article on how to stay focused in the rain is still very much in my mind, plus I want to highlight how important it is to be really prepared for heavy and consistent rain on the golf course.

I made the big mistake of thinking that I would be alright with just my golf trolley and umbrella fixed over my golf gear would be suffice, how wrong was I, by the end of the round everything from my golf bag, golf clubs, towels, inner contents of my golf bag and of course me were saturated to the bone, sodden to the hilt from 4 hours of heavy and persistent rain.

Me personally I am one of those golfers that you would call a ‘fair weather golfer’, if it’s raining why bother playing when there is always tomorrow to play a round of golf in much better weather, but when it comes down to when you have to play in the rain because it’s a golf tournament you have qualified for and you have to play come sun rain or shine, you need to be prepared – I wasn’t and my golf, golf pride and golf gear were still soaking wet 48 hours later!

So in this article how to stay focused in the rain is all about getting the right gear for inclement weather and still being able to notch up a decent score in the tournament, and you might not have to spend a small fortune to ensure that you are going to keep dry throughout the round.

Firstly you need a golf bag rain cover to keep your whole bag dry plus it needs easy access so you can get into your golf clubs when needed, this little cost effective cover would suffice to keep your golf bag and equipment dry throughout your round:

Now that you are going to keep your golf bag dry you now need to focus on keeping yourself dry if haven’t got the luxury of a caddie for your round of golf, so I would recommend a trolley which enables you to fix an umbrella on it so you can take shelter walking the fairways and also waiting for your playing partners to play their shots, my recommendation would be:

Golf Trolley:

This is a great trolley, doesn’t cost the national debt but is robust, sturdy and well worth the investment.
I would also recommend a decent golf umbrella that doesn’t get blown inside out when the wind picks up, so you need to choose an umbrella that has the windproof slats in them so the wind races through the umbrella, like this one you can purchase on Amazon :

Now that you have got these covered you are now going to ensure that you keep your golf clubs and yourself dry while in the confines of the golf trolley and bag, we now have to look at how to still be able to play golf when you have to play your golf shots, so I am now going to suggest an all weather glove that will enable you to play a golf shot when your normal golf gloves would not be up for the test for a full 18 holes of golf, my recommendation would be:

All weather and stay dry golf gloves that are not that expensive:

The final part of the jigsaw has got to be a wet weather golf suit of some sort to enable you to still swing the golf club and stay comfortable during your round, there is nothing worse than being in the rain but your body is sweating so much underneath all of your clothing that you feel like you are in a sauna!

Wet Weather Suit

The wet weather suit I would recommend purely because of price and effectiveness is the Island Green Waterproof Suit, nothing fancy but certainly, does the trick for keeping you dry during your round of golf:

Now you could go and spend an absolute fortune on some wet weather gear which enables you to play golf in all types of weather conditions but will it keep you any drier? I doubt it and these recommendations should suit the majority of golfer’s budgets!

I hope that this has shed some light on possible ideas to invest in for your wet weather golf gear and as always if you have any comments or feedback regarding this article how to stay focused in the rain please do not hesitate to leave a comment below, I will be glad to respond to any responses received.

Good article and i agree with the items you suggested you can make a bleak day a little brighter. I recently thought i would get a cart on a rainy day. I have never had wet undies before but i did that day. I am much drier set up as you said. A couple of extra items I would suggest. Go to the locker room and and grab a towel and hang it from your umbrella, for you not the clubs and a second and smaller umbrella for when your on the green.
Set up this way you can take advantage of the high DSR and the misfortune of those not as well prepared improving your chances to win. I say bring on the wind and rain!

I think website for senior golfers is a real good idea. A lot of good info and good visuals. Many videos which is good. I don’t know much about golf because I have only recently taken it up, but I know a bit about baseball and softball. Videos are good for showing proper mechanics. Showing usually is better than telling. Well organized. Really good website for senior golfers.

Keep the tips for senior golfers coming very informative and easy to follow.

    Cheers,
