Putting Tip for Senior Golfers

Putting Tip for Senior Golfers

After personally trying so many different putting tips over the years I had to look no further than Jordan Spieth for a great putting tip for senior golfers, keeping it simple and not too technical he never looks at the golf ball when putting within five feet of the hole!

Putting Tip for Senior Golfers - hole on green

We all know that we make the most three-putts on a putting green when we are making very long putts or short putts, so if we can get the feel and pace of the longer putts and get the ball to settle within that 5 feet range, the days of three putting greens will be a thing of the past.

A few months back I was trying all types of putting methods and nothing was really giving me the consistency I wanted on the greens, so I resorted to the Jordan Spieth method and not looking at the ball when putting but just looking at the hole.

I was going through my same pre-putt routine, picking and reading the line of the putt, setting up as per normal allowing for the break, then when I was ready to putt I just looked at the hole instead of the ball, the results were scary to the point that I was knocking in long putts from all parts of the green.

Have a look at this video to see what I am talking about, simple and easy method not worrying about fast or slow greens but just executing a nice stroke on the putt, you might miss a few putts to start with but you will start to see some really stunning results with your putting stats, have a look at the video:

Now that you have watched the video, I personally do not believe this is a long-term fix, this is more of a mental tip for senior golfers to get the feel, roll and line of the putts, then after using this method for a few weeks revert back to your old putting method, but this time you will have far more confidence on the greens and enjoy putting once again because you are making good putts.

So the next time you are on the practice putting green give the Jordan Spieth putting method a go, it’s well worth the time and effort to see if it works for you too.

In response to your question what is the best technique for short putts, I would recommend using the Jordan Spieth method with shorter putts, pick your line, set up well with your stance and then do not look at the golf ball just look at the hole, this shorter putt method definitely does work long term and well worth practising and using full time. Many senior golfers tend to either push or pull short putts that is why I would recommend this looking at the hole not at the ball for shorter putts, it does work a treat if you stick with the procedure and technique.
