Ian Poulters world ranking

It has been a topsy-turvy few weeks for Ian Poulter to eventually get to play the US Masters at Augusta, but recent great performances have seen Ian Poulters world ranking jump up to number 29 in the Official World Golf Rankings. Ian Poulters world ranking - Ian Poulter

With his recent win at The Houston Open in Texas, this being his first win on the PGA Tour playing a stroke play event, all of his other wins have either been in match play events or the WGC co-sanctioned events, so all in all a very gutsy performance in Texas to claim the last remaining spot for the 2018 US Masters.

A week prior after making the quarterfinals of the WGC World Match Play tournament also in Texas he was under the impression that making the last 8 of the WGC World Match Play he would, in fact, make the field at this year’s US Masters, he was misinformed by a PGA official and that left him no option but to win the Houston Open and he did via a sudden playoff for the tournament.

Maybe Poulter should have clarified the situation properly instead of just assuming the official he asked was the correct decision, but to come back after such a major set-back thinking he had missed out on the opportunity to play in the first golf major of 2018 at Augusta, to go out and win the event in Houston.

Another uphill battle he had from the start of the Houston Open was shooting an over-par round in his opening round so he had his work cut out after the opening day, he not only overcame the pretty bad opening round he through the history book out of the window by winning the event.

No player has ever won on the PGA Tour being in a position of equal 183rd, no player has ever come from that far back to claim a victory on the PGA Tour, after shooting the next two rounds in the mid 60’s he was leading going into the final round on 14 under par.

He nearly let it slip though on the back 9 of the final round and had to see off the very talented young golfer Beau Hossler who rallied to catch Poulter on the back 9, but typical of Ian Poulter and that old Ryder Cup spirit he slotted in an 18 footer for a birdie on the 18th hole to force a playoff. Ian Poulters world ranking - 10th hole at Augusta

Ian Poulter made a regulation par on the first playoff hole and Hossler made an ugly triple bogey, so Ian Poulter eventually secured his US Masters entry with the last stroke of the tournament – good on him and we all hope that he plays a good solid game of golf throughout the tournament, no doubt that he will after such a topsy-turvy fortnight!
