When I get asked by golfers how can I improve my game I always start off with “do you analyse your game after you have finished your round” – I invariably get “No never”. So this is the first thing you need to do before your next round, get a blank 18 hole scorecard of your home course and write down on each hole what is the best ever score you have had on each and every hole across the 18 holes.
This will then tell you collectively what your best scores were all brought together and you will be pleasantly surprised to see that you are well under par for the card on your best ever per ‘hole score’ playing your home course.
No doubt you are now saying yeah but that will never happen in ‘one round’ and yes you would be right, but the point I am getting to is that sometime, some year, on some day you did shoot that score on each of those particular holes so you know it is possible.
Golf is a game of confidence
What this particular best mental golf tip is all about is drawing on those thoughts when you did make those scores, try and recall what type of conditions were on that day, how you were feeling that particular day, were you enjoying your golf etc etc – hopefully you are now getting the picture and now realising that golf is a game of confidence and being able to draw on those good golf shots when needed.
How to stay focused for 18 holes of golf
It is sometimes difficult to stay focused on certain rounds when some rounds count more than others like games socially or the monthly medal, but what you need to get into is a set routine on each and every shot, so when there are other distractions going on you just need to stay focused during your per shot routine, then go with the flow for the rest of the round dependent on whether it’s a social round with your mates or being drawn with strangers for the monthly medal, perfect a pre shot routine and stick to it because it definitely works.
